As Nigeria’s leading carrier, Arik Air, continues to savour the International Quality Summit Award won in New York on May 26, 2008, the airline’s chairman, Sir Joseph Arumemi-Johnson, says the award reflects the strong foundation the airline has been building since its inception and innovative strength as a market leader.

In a letter congratulating the Arik Team on the award, Sir Arumemi-Johnson charged them to move from ‘service quality’ to ‘service excellence’.

According to the chairman, guest satisfaction is no longer about meeting requirements as today’s guests are spoilt for choice and this means that there is need to exceed their expectations and delight them.

He said to remain the preferred carrier of choice, Arik must successfully integrate organic growth, innovation and the principles of the ‘Total Quality Management (TQM)’ into its business.

Meanwhile, Arik Air Limited has pledged its commitment to quality as a factor of development to become more competitive.

In a Commitment of Arik Air Limited to Quality endorsed by the Managing Director, Mr. Michael McTighe at the International Quality Summit Award ceremony in New York, the airline pledged to publicise the Quality Culture with its employees, suppliers, clients and the community, supported by the QC 100 Total Quality Management.

One of the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) which Arik Air has pledged to achieve is, satisfying the needs of clients and meeting their expectations.

Also the airline pledged to provide human resources, both technical and economic, to achieve continuous improvement and respect for the environment.

The Arik MD stressed that the achievement of the seven principles of TQM by Arik Air would foster improvement for clients, employees, suppliers and all of the other persons who make up the company.

Arik Air was on May 26, 2008, in New York, presented the International Quality Summit Award in the ‘Gold’ category in recognition of commitment to quality, leadership, technology and innovation.

The occasion was the 22nd International Quality summit hosted at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, New York.

The award was the second the airline would be receiving this year. Earlier in the year, Arik won the Airline of The Year Award at the Thisday Awards 2008.
