Arik Air, Nigeria’s largest commercial airline, is increasing its capacity on the Abuja-Enugu route with the addition of a second daily frequency to meet the demands of its guests on both sides of the route. The new evening flight, which is scheduled to start on Friday July 1st, 2011, will complement the existing morning schedule between Abuja and Enugu.
The new daily flight will depart Abuja for Enugu at 3:40 pm (local time) with the return flight departing Enugu at 5:00 pm (local time). The earlier frequency of Enugu-Abuja at 8:50 am and Abuja-Enugu at 10:30 am remains unchanged.
This is the second addition to Arik Air’s network from Enugu this year. In April, the airline introduced a new connection from Enugu to Kano and in the process becoming the first domestic carrier to connect the two major cities.
Bert Van der Stege, Vice President Planning & Marketing commented;
“With this additional daily flight, our customers now have more choice on the Abuja-Enugu route – an increased service that they have been asking for. We have identitified and delivered on this demand and are continuously reviewing our domestic route network to offer increased and seamless connections.”
Additionally, Arik Air will be introducing a late evening flight from Abuja to Lagos on Friday July 1st, 2011. This flight will enable guests to keep late appointments in Abuja whilst still being able to connect to Lagos late at night.
When Arik Air returned to Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu on Friday December 17th, 2010 following the completion of regeneration works by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Managing Director, Mr. Chris Ndulue, promised that the airline would increase its frequency to the airport as traffic picks up on the route.
