Aircraft manufacturing giant, Boeing Corporation, has organised a three-day planning seminar for Arik Air Wings of Nigeria in Lagos.

The seminar, which was held at the Lagos Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Ikeja, began on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 and ended on Thursday, January 31, 2008.

The course was handled by five resource persons from the Boeing Corporation in U.S.A. Among the facilitators were Boeing’s Regional Director, Marketing (Commercial Airplanes), Keith Williams and Sales Program Manager, Middle East and Africa (Commercial Airplanes), David Richardson.

In attendance were about 30 Arik Air staff drawn from various departments of the airline.

The seminar was aimed at updating the staff on modern trends in airline management as well as revenue management and maximization of profit.

Participants at the seminar were put through airplane solutions; network and fleet planning; airplane economics; passenger market analysis; airplane strategies and business models; and airplane performance.

Participants at the seminar were on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 awarded certificates at a dinner held at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

Arik Air is one of Boeing’s major clients in Africa. The airline which is Nigeria’s number one domestic carrier has six Boeing aircraft in its fleet. This is made up of four Boeing 737-700 New Generation aircraft manufactured in 2007 and two Boeing 737-300 (1989).

On order from Boeing are 2 B737-800 (2008); 2 B777-200LR (2010); 3 B777-300ER (2011); 7 B787-900 (2013/14); and 15 B737-800/900 (2013).

Arik Air is expected to take delivery of additional three Boeing 737-700NG aircraft this April.

Arik Air’s Managing Director, Michael McTighe said the seminar “demonstrates Arik Air and Boeing’s commitment to the development of Nigeria’s aviation industry. It’s part of our strategic plan of developing and training our staff. We are investing in their future to help them grow the airline. The more knowledge our staff have, the stronger the Arik team”.
