Capital of Cross River State in South East Nigeria, Calabar is an exceptionally charming and peaceful city. One of Nigeria’s oldest trading centres, the city is set on a hill overlooking the Calabar River. It has been a popular holiday destination since the crowning of King Archibong III during the Victoria era, and boasts some wonderful Colonial architecture around Henshaw and Duke Town.
Nature enthusiasts should visit Agbokim Waterfalls, surrounded by verdant valleys, and the Afi Wildlife Sanctuary, Refome Lake and Kwa Rapids. There is also some stunning wildlife to be discovered at Afi Mountain Drill Ranch and Cercopan Primate Rehabilitation Centre.
