Arik Air's maiden flight Lagos to London Heathrow Terminal 2 was successfully launched today from Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Flight W3 001 was flagged off at the scheduled departure time of 12pm and after taxi, was airborne at 1237pm arriving at London Heathrow at 530pm.

All is now set for Arik Air’s December 1, 2008 launch date of the Lagos-London Heathrow flight operations with the granting of more Heathrow slots to the Nigerian flag carrier by the British aviation authorities.

Arik Air has negotiated aircraft financing facilities worth over N35 billion to acquire five Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. On 29 July 2008, Arik Air will conclude at a signing ceremony with a consortium of national and regional banks, the Pre-Delivery Payment (PDP) for these aircraft acquisitions.

Arik Air continues its leading growth in Nigerian aviation with the addition of Kaduna to its network of destinations.

To cope with its expanding operations, Nigeria’s fastest growing domestic operator, Arik Air, is to establish another hub in Abuja. This will compliment the Lagos hub where its hangar is located.
