Adamawa State’s capital is a spacious town on the banks of the Benue. Yola was the capital of the Fulani State until the arrival of the British in 1901, and is today divided between the old town and the administrative centre of Jimeta.
It’s easy to get around and equally easy to shop, with street vendors offering textiles, fruit and vegetables along the roadsides. Yola is far from the tourist trail, so it is not overwhelmed with places to eat or leisure facilities, but it’s a charmingly authentic experience where you can get up close and personal with the real rural Nigeria.
