In the South West of the Niger Delta, Warri has long been a major city for Nigeria’s crude oil industry. Predominantly Christian but very multi-ethnic, it has seen rapid population growth since the oil boom of the sixties, though its busy port has been a centre of commerce since the late nineteenth century.

Rightly celebrated for its vibrant culture and friendly, engaging people, the city is well worth a visit, particularly for beach lovers. Abraka Beach may be a half-hour drive away, but it’s a must to visit, with its natural flowing spring water and excellent recreational facilities including canoeing, golf, fishing and swimming. Back in town, the main market is a sight to behold, being packed with colourful vendors offering fruit, vegetables, textiles and much more.
